Free Birding Apps

  • Merlin Bird ID - Helpful for sound identification

  • eBird - A global database used by birders to record sightings

  • Audubon - A field guide app with bird calls, maps, and eBird data

A crowdsourced map created by Birdability and National Audubon Society that describes in detail the accessibility features of birding locations all over the world. It is a work-in-progress, and anyone can contribute to it by submitting a Birdability Site Review.

Birders use eBird to contribute to community science by entering when, where, and how they went birding, and then fill out a checklist of all the birds seen and heard during the outing. The data is used globally by scientists to better understand bird distribution, populations, health, and more.
